The obvious answer
Use Google Meet if your business runs on Google Workspace. It runs in a browser tab and comes with every plan. Pick Microsoft Teams if you live in Outlook and SharePoint, or want chat, channels, and meetings in one desktop app.
We run on Google Workspace, and plenty of our clients run on Microsoft 365. So we alternate between the two meeting platforms. This post sticks to what changes your decision. If you’re weighing Zoom instead, see our Google Meet vs. Zoom comparison.

What does each one cost?
Meet doesn’t have its own price tag for businesses. You get it with Google Workspace, which starts at $7 per user per month on a 1-year commitment. See Google Workspace pricing by plan.
Teams comes with Microsoft 365 business plans. Microsoft lists Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50 per user per month, paid yearly, and sells Teams Premium as a $10 add-on. Teams Essentials, the standalone version, includes 10 GB of cloud storage per user.
Which one fits your team?
Google Meet fits if…
- Your email and calendar are in Google Workspace
- People join from Chromebooks, Macs, and phones, and you don’t want installs
- You want meeting notes from Gemini on Business Standard and up
Microsoft Teams fits if…
- You already pay for Microsoft 365
- Your team wants persistent channels next to meetings
- You need meetings for up to 300 people on a Business plan
Can you switch from Teams to Meet?
Yes, and calendar invites with Teams links carry over when you import from Exchange Online. They stay Teams links and aren’t converted to Meet. Our step-by-step guide to migrating from Microsoft 365 covers the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Is Google Meet better than Microsoft Teams?
It depends on where the rest of your work lives. Meet makes more sense for teams on Gmail, Calendar, and Drive. Teams makes more sense if you’re on Outlook, SharePoint, and desktop Office. As a meeting tool alone, both handle everyday calls fine.
How many people can join a Google Meet call compared with Teams?
Meet allows 100 participants on Business Starter, 150 on Business Standard, 500 on Business Plus, and up to 1,000 on Enterprise. Microsoft says Teams in Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, and Premium, and in Teams Essentials, can host meetings for up to 300 people.
Can people without an account join?
Both let you invite outside guests by link. On the free consumer version of Meet, guests sign in with a Google Account or wait for the organizer to let them in.
Can a Google Workspace user join a Teams meeting?
Yes. Teams meetings work in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, so a Workspace user can join from a browser without installing anything.
Does Teams have a time limit?
Microsoft lists a 30-hour limit for Teams meetings and events. The free version of Meet ends group calls on a computer at 60 minutes.
